A word of welcome
Sauvignon Blanc – one of the most fascinating grape varieties – is cultivated in the “New World” as well as in the traditional wine producing countries of Europe. In many countries - like here in the southern part of Austria - the Sauvignon Blanc is even considered one of the most important grape varieties.
Every day and with uncompromising devotion, winemakers all over the world toil to improve the quality of their wines. Not only sophisticated technology, but also the skilled hands and the personal commitment of winemakers play a substantial role in perfecting this craft, particularly in small but finely-structured wine regions like Styria. As a result of geological and climatic differences as well as the personal touch of the winemaker, Sauvignon Blanc is a wine of many faces.
Impassioned by the incredible diversity of this grape variety, we decided to bring together an international scene of Sauvignon Blanc professionals and scientists to celebrate a unique event in the Styrian capital of Graz in August 2008. We will jointly discuss the latest scientific findings and the great potential of this grape variety.
It is our aim to raise the profile of this beautifully versatile grape variety by creating an international communication platform dedicated to Sauvignon Blanc, providing participants with the opportunity to exchange their experiences.
We would like to thank all partners, sponsors and contributors for their support and their enthusiasm and also express how pleased we are that an international congress of this scale can be staged here in Styria.
